Through the past decade, the Biscayne Bay has lost more than 21 square miles of seagrass bed. Dredging, storm drain runoff, and toxic algae blooms that result from excess nutrients from fertilizers and waste from sewage lines may all be contributing to the destruction of this habitat and its inhabitants. Lacking in funding and attention, these beds are likely to continue to die off.
Miami Waterkeeper plays an active role in fighting against and spreading awareness of water quality issues that directly impact Biscayne ecosystems as a whole, promoting sustainability and environmental conscientiousness. 10% of each purchase of this product goes directly to this organization.
